CAR T-cell therapy
CAR T-cell therapy is a rare type of immunotherapy treatment in which T cells (a type of white blood cell) are extracted from the patient and combined with an artificial receptor, also known as a “chimeric antigen receptor.” The new therapy is offered to those who have failed the standard of care for diffuse large b-cell lymphoma and would otherwise have limited options for care.
The UK Markey Cancer Center now offers hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), a heated chemotherapy treatment, also known as a chemotherapy bath, delivered directly to the abdomen during surgery.

Wondering About Your Family's History of Cancer?
Research shows that most cancer cases are not caused by a cancer risk that is passed down in a person's family. However, an increased risk of developing cancer does run in some families. This is called a hereditary cancer risk. If you are wondering if you or a family member has an increased risk of developing cancer because of a hereditary cancer risk, you may benefit from the Markey Cancer Center's Clinical Genetic Counseling Program.
