Quality & Safety

WHAT QUALITY AND SAFETY MEAN
TO US

At UK HealthCare, performance matters. As an academic health system, we are committed to improving outcomes, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and being transparent about how we’re doing along the way.

On this website, we share measures for which external agencies hold us accountable as well as measures that show how we perform in key areas of quality. These include:

  • Survival
  • Quality of care
  • Patient safety
  • Efficient care
  • 'Patient-centeredness

We present this information as accurately as possible. We’ll be clear about what’s good and what isn’t. We believe our patients have the right to understand:

  • The quality of care we provide
  • What we do well
  • Where we need to do better

We believe that honesty, and an honest effort to improve when and where we need to, makes for better care.

Please note that the data shared does not reflect the differences in cases treated at our various hospitals. For instance, a community hospital such as UK Good Samaritan would typically treat patients who are less sick, while UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital – the anchor of our academic health system – treats the most severely ill and injured patients. For this reason, these numbers should not be used to compare one hospital with another.

OUR
PHILOSOPHY

  • We are not creating any new measures.
  • We will not change the scale/format/target to make ourselves look better or worse.
  • We will be clear about what is good or bad.
  • We may not always look good.
