Scholarships

The Enterprise Scholarship Program supports the education of students interested in full-time employment at UK HealthCare upon graduation. Because this program is highly competitive, submission of an application does not ensure funding.

  • This program covers tuition up to 13 credit hours per semester. The scholarship covers program-specific credit hours, not prerequisite courses. Awards are based on allocated budget, which could result in awards less than 13 credit hours.
  • All selected participants will receive $20 per funded credit hour to partially offset additional education expenses incurred. This includes books and course materials.
  • Four-year programs: Students attending a four-year program (both in-state and out-of-state) will be awarded up to $654 per credit hour.
  • Two-year programs: Students attending a two-year program (both in-state and out-of-state) will be awarded up to $195 per credit hour.
  • Recipients are required to carry at least six (6) credit hours per fall or spring semester and if enrolled for summer classes, at least three (3) credit hours. It is strongly encouraged that the recipient seeks employment in non-certified positions relative to the degree the undergraduate student is seeking.

If you are selected to receive this educational award, you will be asked to sign a contract that outlines the award and required workback commitment.

Recipients of awards are expected to become full-time employees (at least an FTE status of .6 or higher) at UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital, UK Good Samaritan Hospital, UK HealthCare Ambulatory Clinics or Eastern State Hospital in an eligible title within three (3) months of completion of their educational program.

One (1) semester of the scholarship award will be forgiven for every six (6) months of productive full-time service in eligible title. Productive full-time service begins once the employee has successfully completed their unit-specific orientation and/or new hire internship. The workback agreement begins after the orientation period. Time worked during school as a scholarship recipient does not count to fulfill the work obligation.

Recipients must be available for any patient care unit, day of week, or shift rotation. Campus positions are not eligible to fulfill workback requirements. UK HealthCare reserves the right to place scholarship recipients into areas of need within the clinical enterprise. If a scholarship recipient fails to meet their work obligation, they will be required to repay the entire or remaining stipend amount, plus accrued interest and any collection costs.

Students must maintain a cumulative overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better and a cumulative program GPA of 2.5 or better at all times to maintain funding eligibility.

  1. If awarded, the student must submit an unofficial transcript at the end of each semester demonstrating that they have met the required GPA.
  2. If a student’s cumulative overall GPA or cumulative program GPA drops below 2.5 after a semester, the student is not eligible to receive funding for the next semester.
  3. If the student fails to bring their cumulative overall and program GPA to 2.5 or greater after this “unfunded” semester, they will not be eligible for any additional funding in any subsequent semester of their program.
