UK HealthCare Emergency Services

UK HealthCare Emergency Services includes the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital, the Makenna David Pediatric Emergency Center, UK Good Samaritan Hospital, ground transport services and emergency communications. Annually, this service line has over 100,000 emergency visits and more than 7,000 ground transports and manages almost 200,000 incoming radio and phone calls.

Emergency Services registered nurses routinely provide complex, evidence-based care to critically ill and injured patients. Nursing staff receive a prescriptive orientation that ensures their  competency to care for patient populations with medical needs spanning low-acuity issues through critical care. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course, Trauma Nursing Core Course and other specialty classes are completed during orientation. Emergency nursing certification is encouraged and supported.

Emergency Services is a highly skilled interprofessional team that also includes board-certified emergency physicians, advanced practice providers, paramedics, nursing care technicians, emergency medical technicians, and patient clerical assistants.
