Q&A for Cigna plan participants
UK HealthCare to end relationship with Cigna effective May 1, 2025
What is happening?
Effective May 1, 2025, UK HealthCare will no longer be part of the Cigna Healthcare medical insurance network.
This means, after April 30, 2025, UK HealthCare facilities and providers will be considered out-of-network for our patients participating in Cigna Healthcare medical insurance plans. We will continue to assist our patients and work with them as an out-of-network provider after that date. UK HealthCare remains committed to ensuring patients receive uninterrupted, high-quality care during this transition. Cigna plan participants will continue to have in-network access to UK HealthCare services through April 30, 2025, including emergency care. After that date, access to our emergency departments for emergency services will continue in accordance with the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act.
Why is this happening?
Despite extensive efforts to establish a fair and sustainable fee schedule, UK HealthCare and Cigna were unable to reach a new agreement. As a result, UK HealthCare will no longer be an in-network provider for Cigna plan participants after April 30, 2025.
Who will this change impact?
About 4,500 patients at UK HealthCare are anticipated to be impacted by this change.

Affected patients are encouraged to contact Cigna for guidance on care options and to stay informed about how this change may impact their healthcare services. You can contact Cigna at the phone number on the back of your insurance card.
UK HealthCare is also seeking more information from Cigna to assist patients requiring continuity of care for ongoing treatment once the contract ends.
