Biostatistics

The Biostatistics component of the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource Facility (BB SRF) aims to apply statistical principles to ensure rigor in the design, implementation and data analysis of cancer research projects encompassing basic science, translational studies, clinical trials and cancer prevention and control studies.

Highlights of Services and Key Technical Expertise

Study Planning

  • Study designs, power and sample size calculations for in vivo, clinical trials, health behavior, population-based and epidemiologic studies
  • Consultations and statistical sections for grant applications and clinical trial development
  • BB SRF utilizes best practices in the application of statistical principles to comply with NIH’s rigor and reproducibility guidelines for study design

Innovative Methods and New Designs for MCC Investigator-Initiated Clinical Trials

  • Adaptive and model-assisted designs for Phase I trials: BOIN suite of designs, partial order continual reassessment method, isotonic regression, and others
  • Two-stage design for Phase II trials with survival endpoints
  • Bayesian design and sample size for Phase II time-to-event trials
  • Designs for precision medicine trials: Basket, platform, enrichment designs
  • Design for immunotherapy trials with delayed treatment effect and cure rate

Advanced Methods for Cancer Population, Behavioral, Epidemiologic Research

  • Cluster randomized/stepped wedge design, multilevel structural equation modeling, propensity score matching, multinomial regression, ordinal and generalized logits, pragmatic clinical trial design for health behavior and community-based intervention studies.
  • Novel methods for predictive accuracy of time-to-event data for molecular epidemiologic studies
  • Statistical regression and machine learning for linkage of NCI SEER and administrative claims database
NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center - A Cancer Center Designated by the National Cancer Institute

Markey Cancer Center is designated by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center – a distinction that recognizes our commitment to accelerating precision cancer research and care to patients. We are the first and only NCI-Comprehensive Cancer Center in Kentucky, and one of 56 in the nation.
