Sports medicine surgeons at UK HealthCare are experts in the treatment of injuries related to sports and exercise. These physicians, who are specialized sports medicine orthopaedic surgeons, provide surgical treatment of injuries to the musculoskeletal system, particularly athletic injuries that affect the ankle, elbow, foot, hip, knee and shoulder. Sports medicine surgery can be an effective way to help you return to normal levels of fitness and function.
In addition to completing a residency in orthopaedic surgery, the sports medicine surgeons at UK HealthCare have completed an additional fellowship in sports medicine. Together with UK HealthCare’s primary care sports medicine physicians, they help patients reduce downtime from sports and maximize function following an injury.
In addition to working with patients from our community who have experienced a sports injury, the UK HealthCare sports medicine surgeons work with high school and college athletes from around the Commonwealth. Members of our team have also helped Olympic and professional athletes during their careers. Our team’s experience, combined with advanced levels of education and training, offer skilled, quality care to athletes of all fitness levels ages 8 and older.
Our surgeons use leading-edge technologies to provide safe and effective surgical treatment, including minimally invasive procedures. After surgery, our providers collaborate with physical therapists at UK Sports Rehabilitation to help patients stay active, mobile and strong while on their road to recovery.
