Our Young Parents Program (YPP) was created to deal with the special needs of young parents and their children. We know that young mothers face special challenges, so we've created this clinic to care for both the young mother and her child at the same appointment, saving time and money.
The Young Parents Program provides health and obstetrical care for women age 18 and under throughout pregnancy and after. This is a joint venture between the Division of Adolescent Medicine and UK Women's Health Obstetrics & Gynecology. While pregnant, patients are seen at the Polk-Dalton Clinic by an obstetrician specially trained in adolescent obstetrics and gynecology. They will also receive support services from YPP staff including social workers, dietitians and nurses. Care is focused on the needs of adolescent parents during their pregnancy. The program strongly encourages involvement of families and community partners and includes adolescent fathers. Adolescent fathers who are in need of medical care for themselves are referred to the Adolescent Medicine clinic.
The adolescent medicine clinic gives teens (between the ages of 10 and 21 years) the specialized, comprehensive care they need.
After the baby is born, parents are encouraged to continue to receive care for themselves and their baby in the Young Parents Program held in the Adolescent Medicine Clinic on the fourth floor of the Kentucky Clinic.
