Pediatric Urology

The pediatric urology team at Kentucky Children’s Hospital provides exceptional care and treatment for infants, children and teens. Our services are designed to detect, diagnose and treat urologic conditions in children. If your child has an illness or disease of the kidneys, ureters, bladder or genitals, our team is here to support you in getting the answers and help you need.

Our staff includes the only surgeon in Kentucky with specialized training in pediatric, adolescent and young adult urologic oncology. We are also the first in Kentucky to offer any type of robotic surgery to children, giving us the longest experience with this technology. We routinely collaborate with other specialists across UK HealthCare, ensuring that your child receives the highest-quality multidisciplinary care.

In addition to seeing patients in Lexington, our pediatric urology team serves patients in Eastern and Southeastern Kentucky once a month at our satellite locations.

  • Dysfunctional voiding and incontinence
  • Differences in sexual development and ambiguous genitalia
  • Hypospadias, hernias and undescended testicles
  • Newborn circumcisions

Our pediatric urology group also provides oncology services for children and young adults with urologic cancers. Through our prenatal urology program, we also work with expecting mothers of babies with urologic issues. Our close relationship with pediatric nephrology and pediatric endocrinology and genetics provides state-of-the-art, comprehensive care for patients with kidney stones and complex uro-endocrine disorders (ambiguous genitalia) respectively.

Why Choose UK HealthCare for Pediatric Urology?

When it comes to your child’s health, you want to partner with a team of specialists who are knowledgeable and experienced, but who will also treat children with care and make them feel comfortable. All four children’s urologists who practice at our pediatric urology clinic have additional years of fellowship training in treating children, alongside the average 10 years of medical school and urology residency. The extensive training our urology team has completed, combined with years of experience treating young children and teens, makes us a leader in Kentucky for pediatric urology care.

In addition to offering a team of pediatric urology physicians, advanced practice providers and caring pediatric nurses and staff, we also coordinate care with other providers at Kentucky Children’s Hospital. These include nephrologists, gastroenterologists, oncologists, endocrinologists and physical therapists, based on your child’s needs.

If your child requires surgery, our pediatric urologists offer a wide variety of procedures for treatment. Our equipment and technology are designed for kids. We offer advanced minimally invasive surgery, including robot-assisted surgery, to perform precise surgeries on our small patients. Our surgeons are also trained in highly complex inpatient procedures.

Our providers are active members of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) and participate in COG trials for renal tumors, rhabdomyosarcoma, germ cell tumors, testicular tumors and ovarian tumors. We also particulate in the National Institutes of Health’s Disorders/Differences of Sex Development-Translational Research Network (DSD-TRN) and the Pediatric KIDney Stone Care Improvement Network (PKIDS).

Our priority is to make your child feel at ease while discussing and treating possibly uncomfortable situations. Our goal is to make sure the families who trust us with care find compassionate healing for their children.
