If you are concerned that your child is showing signs or symptoms of type 1 diabetes, please contact your pediatrician or primary care physician for referral to our clinic.
To diagnose type 1 diabetes, your provider will complete certain exams and/or tests. You also may be asked questions about your child’s health history, symptoms, risk factors and family history of disease.
A glucose test measures your child’s blood glucose level either when fasting (fasting plasma glucose test) or at any time as needed (random plasma glucose test).
An A1C blood test measures blood glucose levels over the previous three-month period.
Antibody tests can confirm whether your child has type 1 diabetes.
