What to expect at your first appointment
At your child’s first appointment, you will fill out a form addressing their symptoms as well as their birth history, family history and social history.
Next, we will measure your child’s height, weight and vital signs. Some children may need their blood drawn or an X-ray taken. These tests will occur at UK HealthCare – Turfland, where the UK Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center is located.
A provider will then conduct a physical exam before developing a care plan tailored to your child’s specific needs.
Why choose UK HealthCare?
Our multidisciplinary team works alongside families to ensure your child receives the best care possible.
If your child is diagnosed with diabetes, our diabetes educators provide age-appropriate lessons so that you and your child understand how to successfully manage their condition. They offer training on insulin pumps and blood glucose-monitoring equipment as well as guidance on healthy eating and how to keep blood glucose levels under control.
Our family-centered approach means that we involve you – the caregiver – every step of the way so that we can achieve our common goal: Making sure your child can grow and thrive.
