The UK HealthCare Gynecologic Oncology team provides personalized, compassionate care to women with cancers that affect the reproductive system. We offer screenings, diagnosis and treatment for premalignant conditions, gestational trophoblastic neoplasia and many gynecological cancers, including cancer of the cervix, uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, peritoneum, vagina and vulva. Our Telemedicine Program allows you to receive the same expert care from Markey Cancer Center specialists without leaving your community.
Gynecological cancers aren’t as common as breast or colorectal cancers, but if they aren’t detected early or treated effectively, they can be just as deadly. The distress of having cancer in your reproductive system can be especially hard to process. That’s why our gynecologic oncology specialists excel in providing empathetic professionalism to treat:
Depending on the type and extent of your cancer, treatment options may include minimally invasive surgery, open surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy or biological therapy. We also offer ongoing gynecological clinical trials that give patients access to the newest and most innovative treatment options.
Early detection of gynecologic cancer saves lives. That’s why the UK Markey Cancer Center Ovarian Screening Program was started in 1987. The program offers free ovarian cancer screenings by transvaginal ultrasound to postmenopausal women who are over the age of 50 or women over the age of 25 with a documented family history of ovarian cancer.
We also offer contemporary screening for cervical and vaginal cancers using ThinPrep cytology and HPV typing. For patients with a family history of gynecological cancer, we offer clinical genetic counseling that can help assess individual and family risk.
The UK Markey Cancer Center has offered leading-edge cancer care for more than 20 years, and we are the only cancer center in Kentucky designated by the National Cancer Institute. In August 2017, Markey was designated as one of the Top 50 Cancer Centers in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. In 2020, Markey rose to the No. 29 ranked cancer center in the nation.
