Experience counts when it comes to diagnosing and treating pelvic pain. It can be challenging to diagnose because there are a number of potential causes and many types of symptoms.
Our doctors have years of experience diagnosing and treating women with pelvic pain. We’ll find out what’s causing your pain and help you decide on a treatment plan.
How we diagnose pelvic pain
To diagnose your pelvic pain and find the cause, we may use the following:
- Complete medical history
- Physical exam and pelvic exam
What causes pelvic pain?
Finding the right treatment for your pelvic pain may take time. We’ll work with you so you can get your quality of life back.
Depending on your particular condition, treatment options may include:
- Anti-inflammatory medicine or pain medicine
- Hormone treatment, including birth control pills
- Physical therapy
Physical therapy for pelvic pain
Many women will benefit from physical therapy for pelvic pain. We usually try this option before considering surgery.
Our physical therapists will design a treatment plan for your unique needs and help you practice exercises you can do at home.
Surgical options for pelvic pain
We use less-invasive surgery options when possible to minimize recovery time and side effects. These specialized surgeries aren’t always available at other hospitals. We use these techniques to treat scar tissue, fibroids or endometriosis.
In some cases, we may use hysterectomy to treat pelvic pain. Whenever possible, we use less-invasive surgery with smaller incisions and a shorter recovery time.
