MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine available at the UK Pharmacist Care Clinic

Measles cases are on the rise in Central Kentucky, with recent outbreaks in Fayette and Woodford counties. Measles is one of the most contagious viruses, but it is also highly preventable with vaccination. Without it, measles can lead to serious complications, including pneumonia, brain swelling and death. The MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine is safe, effective and available at the UK Pharmacist Care Clinic.

Who can get the MMR vaccine?

  • The CDC recommends all children receive two doses of the MMR vaccine, starting with the first dose at 12 to 15 months of age, and the second dose at 4 to 6 years of age.

  • During active MMR outbreaks:

    • Infants 6 to 11 months old may receive one dose of the MMR vaccine.

    • Adults born before 1957 may receive a dose if they don’t have proof of immunity – either no vaccination records or negative lab results.

  • Unvaccinated individuals exposed to measles may receive one dose within 72 hours of exposure to help prevent illness. A second dose should follow at least 28 days later.

A visual guide to adult MMR vaccine recommendations is available by the CDC.

The UK Pharmacist Care Clinic is located at 245 Fountain Court, Room 220. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. For questions or to schedule an appointment, call the clinic at 859-562-2018. Walk-ins are also welcome.
