LAST CALL: University Health Pharmacy closing Dec. 19; move prescriptions today

This is a final reminder for patients who use University Health Pharmacy for their prescriptions that the pharmacy is closing permanently Dec. 19.

If you have prescriptions at this pharmacy and have not already transferred them to another location, please do so now.  You may transfer your prescriptions to another UK Retail Pharmacy location by filling out this simple form. We’ll take care of the rest. You can also access the form by scanning the QR code at right.

UK Retail Pharmacies offers six other full-service locations in Lexington that are open to everyone, and one, Bluegrass Clinic Pharmacy in Beaumont, that is currently open only to UK employees and patients of the UK Bluegrass Care Clinic. Any prescriptions at University Health Pharmacy that are not moved before Dec. 19 will be automatically transferred to the Apothecary, located on the first floor of the UK Gatton Student Center. All services available at UHP are also offered at all other UK Retail Pharmacy locations.

In addition, free mail delivery is available for most prescriptions, and the Apothecary offers free prescription delivery to residence halls and offices on the UK campus for most prescriptions.

UK Retail Pharmacies closing University Health location

University Health Pharmacy (UHP), located in the first-floor lobby of the University Health Building on UK’s campus, will permanently close on December 19, 2025.

Closing University Health Pharmacy will allow UK Retail Pharmacies to reallocate resources more effectively and expand services where they are most needed.

Many of these resources will support the launch of a new UK Retail Pharmacy in Richmond, scheduled to open in spring 2026. This new location will provide convenient access for patients living in Richmond and along the I-75 corridor, further strengthening our commitment to accessible care.

All staff currently working at University Health Pharmacy will be offered opportunities within Pharmacy Services, either at the new Richmond location or at one of our seven other Lexington pharmacies.

Patients who currently use University Health Pharmacy may transfer their prescriptions to another UK Retail Pharmacy location of their choice using this simple form or by scanning the QR code at right. In addition to UHP, UK Retail Pharmacies offers six full-service locations in the Lexington area that are open to everyone, and one, Bluegrass Clinic Pharmacy in Beaumont, that is currently open only to UK employees and patients of the Bluegrass Care Clinic.

Standard flu shots are available for anyone age 5 and older at all UK Retail Pharmacy locations. Those who are pregnant should consult their OB/GYN before getting vaccinated. The high-dose shot is approved for anyone age 65 and older.

The UK Pharmacist Care Clinic, located at 245 Fountain Court, off Man O’War near Richmond Road, offers vaccines for patients 6 months and older. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all UK Retail Pharmacy locations.

In addition to flu protection, COVID vaccines are currently available to patients 65 and older, or those under 65 with one or more high risk comorbid conditions. Patients outside these groups will need a valid prescription from a provider. Ask your pharmacist about receiving both vaccines during the same visit. UK HealthCare employees are welcome to receive their required flu shot at any UK Retail Pharmacy location. No additional reporting is needed, and badge buddies are available.

  • Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Walk-ins accepted.

• Pharmacist Care Clinic (245 Fountain Court), Room 220

  • Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Closed 1-1:30 p.m.) Walk-ins accepted.

  • Saturday-Sunday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. by appointment only. Walk-ins accepted when staffing allows.

• Turfland Clinic Retail Pharmacy

  • Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Appointments recommended; walk-ins accepted when staffing allows.

• UK Fountain Court Retail Pharmacy

  • Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. & 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. by appointment only.

• The Apothecary at Gatton Student Center (first floor)

  • Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Walk-ins accepted.

Scheduling an appointment

Appointments for vaccinations can be scheduled at a UK Retail Pharmacy, even without a MyChart account.

Scan the QR code at right or schedule an appointment online. Choose the Pharmacy button, then select “Vaccine” and select the vaccines you would like administered. Then choose a time and location that works for you.

UK Retail Pharmacies again chosen best in Lexington

UK Retail Pharmacies were recently chosen Lexington’s best pharmacies in the Herald-Leader’s Best of Lexington contest for the second year in a row. Earlier this year, the pharmacies took top honors in the Smiley Pete Best of Lex contest, also for the second time.
