National Diabetes Prevention Program

The National Diabetes Prevention Program is one of the many forms of diabetes education our diabetes care and education specialists provide. Offered through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it helps prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes by helping patients learn how to make and maintain healthy lifestyle changes.

  • Helping patients gain self-management skills

The 12-month program, which is recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is offered at the UK Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center. Diabetes care and education specialists trained as lifestyle coaches teach small group classes, helping patients gain the skills to change their eating habits, lose weight and maintain a healthy level of physical activity. Our educators work closely with patients to help them overcome their unique obstacles and achieve their health and wellness goals.
