Which Breast Pump Do I Need?

Here are four types of breast pumps and how best to use them.

  • Hand pump

    Hand operated breast pumpBest uses:

    • Pumping a few times a week, one to two times a day.
    • To relieve engorgement or to bring out inverted or flat nipples. 
  • Single electric breast pump

    Single electric breast pumpBest uses:

    • Same use as hand pump.
    • Best for moms who cannot use a hand pump (if hands lack strength or range of motion).
  • Double electric breast pump

    Double electric breast pumpBest uses:

    • Use when baby is at the breast half the day.
    • Can be used by moms who are pump-only for a few days.
    • Don’t use for longer pump-only periods, like weeks or months. 
  • Hospital-grade breast pump

    Hospital-grade breast pumpBest uses:

    • For moms who are away from baby for long time, like weeks or months.
    • For moms who only pump.
