Nurse Residency Program
The UK HealthCare Nurse Residency Program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, 655 K Street NW, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20001, 202-887-6791 x230.
The UK HealthCare Nurse Residency program is a one year support and educational program for new graduate nurses in a bedside role. The program provides regular contact with experts and peers to allow for the most successful transition from student to professional nurse. With the focus being on transition to professional nursing practice, Patricia Benner’s theoretical framework of From Novice to Expert; Excellence and Power in Clinical Practice is used.
The Nurse Residency program is offered as a partnership between UK HealthCare, UK College of Nursing and Eastern Kentucky University School of Nursing. The Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency curriculum is used and UK’s program is accredited by the CCNE.
Supporting the new graduate nurse’s development as a professional nurse and member of the health care team, the program is facilitated by expert nurses with special emphasis on:
