Syringomyelia is treatable, and most patients have good recoveries. Your follow-up care protocol will depend on whether you have surgery. Whatever your treatment plans, make sure you keep all your appointments and let your providers know if you experience any change in symptoms.
If you need surgery, you will have a series of appointments after your procedure. Some patients may need physical therapy.
If your syringomyelia is being monitored and you still have a syrinx, you may need to be careful with certain activities. Lifting heavy objects, jumping and other activities that cause strain may be restricted.
