If you had surgery as part of your treatment plan for neurogenic claudication, you will have one or more follow-up visits with your spine specialist. This is to ensure you are healing properly. You might also have physical or occupational therapy after surgery.

If you don’t have surgery, your follow-up care will focus on taking steps to limit your neurogenic claudication symptoms. Physical or occupational therapy can help you learn how to adapt your normal movements to avoid triggering pain.

Neurogenic claudication is often a permanent condition, unless spinal compression is relieved surgically. Because of that, it is important to monitor your symptoms and talk with a medical provider if they worsen. Your treatment plan may change over time.
