A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, improves the appearance of the forehead, brow and area around the eyes. Aging often causes deep lines in the skin across the forehead. The skin and soft tissue also become looser and stretched out, which causes the eyebrows to sag. This combination can lead you to look more tired, angry or sad. During a brow lift, the skin as well as the underlying muscle and tissue of the forehead and brow are raised. This can give you a more youthful and refreshed appearance of the upper face. The traditional approach, called a coronal lift, includes a scalp incision from ear to ear, raising the forehead tissue and brow and smoothing the wrinkles.
At UK HealthCare, a newer procedure is performed that uses advanced equipment and only three puncture wounds in the scalp. This minimally invasive technique is called an endoscopic brow lift or EndoBrow. The surgeon makes three to five small incisions in your hairline to insert a long, thin camera, endoscope and instruments. The surgeon then lifts your forehead tissues and eyebrows and anchors them in a new place.
A direct brow lift has incisions just above the eyebrows. The extra skin and tissue is removed. The incision is mostly hidden within the eyebrow hair. During the consultation, you will discuss the different techniques and decide which is best for you.
