The UK Markey Cancer Center is excited to welcome Dr. Julie Lang, MD as Section Chief of Breast Surgery and Medical Director of the UK Markey Comprehensive Breast Care Center. With decades of experience as a surgeon, researcher and educator, Dr. Lang brings a vision focused on expanding access to exceptional care while advancing the future of breast cancer treatment.
Throughout her accomplished career, Dr. Lang has combined compassionate patient care with groundbreaking research. She has led breast cancer programs at several nationally recognized academic medical centers, conducted innovative clinical trials and published more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers. Her work has helped shape new approaches to personalized breast cancer care, particularly through research involving circulating tumor cells, circulating tumor DNA and liquid biopsy technologies.
Now at UK HealthCare, Dr. Lang plans to build on the strong foundation already established at the UK Markey Comprehensive Breast Care Center. Her goal is to expand access to multidisciplinary breast cancer care, ensuring patients benefit from a team of specialists working together to create individualized treatment plans. She also hopes to increase opportunities for patients to participate in clinical trials, giving them access to promising new therapies and advances in cancer treatment.
Innovation will remain at the heart of Dr. Lang’s work. Her research focuses on improving treatment for patients with inflammatory breast cancer and developing more personalized approaches to care through emerging technologies that can detect and monitor cancer using blood samples.
