For this edition of Making the Rounds, we interviewed Dr. William Inabnet, UK HealthCare’s Chair of Surgery.

We spoke with Dr. Inabnet about the UK HealthCare Weight Loss Surgery Program.

What services are available to patients of the Weight Loss Surgery Program?

We have many treatment modalities available, including medical management of obesity and also, of course, surgical management.

We have also built a very, very talented team of surgeons, nurse practitioners, advanced practice providers and ancillary support staff, including our dieticians and nutritionists. Together, we really are able to provide comprehensive care to the patient with metabolic syndrome.

For example, in patients who have type 2 diabetes that requires insulin therapy, they can undergo weight loss surgery, then...go home off all insulin therapy. That happens probably in 80-90 percent of our patients who require insulin to treat type 2 diabetes.

How rewarding is it to help these patients change their lives?

I find that absolutely amazing and very gratifying as a … physician, to have patients experience that type of improved health in a short period of time.

Can you describe the facility where patients will be treated?

Our ambulatory clinic where we see patients is state of the art. It's a brand new practice space. It's beautiful. We have over eight exam rooms. You'll find the patient experience to be second to none.

The decision to undergo weight loss surgery is a very important one, but by choosing the right team, we can help give you a new lease on life.
