10 Years of the Gill Affiliate Network: Bluegrass Community Hospital
The Gill Heart & Vascular Institute Affiliate Network launched in 2014 to better connect community hospitals across the Commonwealth with the expertise and resources available at UK HealthCare. Throughout 2024, UK HealthCare is highlighting achievements by the 23 members of the Gill Affiliate Network (GAN) as part of the network’s 10th anniversary celebration.
Bluegrass Community Hospital, located in Versailles, Ky., joined GAN in July 2021. For over 20 years, the hospital has provided quality care to those living in Anderson and Woodford Counties. It offers offer a broad range of inpatient, surgical, emergency and diagnostic services.
What are key aspects of your cardiovascular program that people should know about?
Bluegrass Community Hospital is a designated Chest Pain Center, which means we are equipped to handle cardiac emergencies with rapid, high-quality care. In addition to our clinical services, we are deeply committed to community outreach. Last year alone, we conducted nearly 50 heart health education and awareness events, giving our community access to life-saving information and resources. From health screenings to educational workshops, we strive to keep our patients informed and empowered to take control of their heart health.
One of the critical aspects of our cardiovascular program is our commitment to providing timely care. We are proud to offer new patients the opportunity to be seen by a cardiology provider within just two business days. We understand that when it comes to heart health, time is critical, and our team is dedicated to delivering prompt, personalized care.
Through a combination of high-quality providers and frontline staff and a dedication to education and prevention, our program plays an essential role in improving heart health for the community we serve.
How has being a part of the Gill Affiliate Network influenced how you care for those in your community?
One of the key elements of this affiliation is the extensive participation in our quarterly chest pain meetings. These meetings allow our team to work closely with leading cardiovascular experts to review cases, share best practices, and continually refine our protocols for diagnosing and treating chest pain. This collaboration ensures that our patients receive the most advanced and effective care possible in critical situations.
In addition to the chest pain meetings, we work extensively with GAN on a wide range of quality initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes. This includes regular assessments of our processes and care pathways, ensuring that we meet and exceed the highest standards of cardiovascular care.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this relationship is the opportunity it provides for extensive volunteer work within our local community. Together, we regularly volunteer at community CPR events, where our staff and providers help train local residents in life-saving techniques. These events not only empower individuals with critical skills but also foster a strong connection between our hospital and the community we serve.
In addition to hands-on community involvement, we collaborate closely with UK Gill Heart & Vascular Institute for ongoing provider education. Through shared learning sessions, workshops, and seminars, we ensure that our medical staff stays up-to-date with the latest advancements in cardiovascular care, allowing us to continually elevate the quality of care we offer our patients.
This network affiliation has strengthened our ability to serve our community with both high-quality clinical care and meaningful outreach, ensuring that we make a lasting impact both inside and outside the hospital walls.
