What We Do
From the time you step into the UK HealthCare Hand Center, you can count on excellent care, from registration to X-ray to the referral for hand therapy and treatment. Our occupational therapists are specially trained to address the complete spectrum of conditions affecting the hands and upper extremities, including:
- Amputations
- Arm and hand fractures
- Burns
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Lacerations
- Osteoarthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Surgical repairs of nerves and tendons
- Tendonitis
Our occupational therapists work closely with our UK HealthCare Hand Center specialists, including fellowship-trained multidisciplinary hand surgeons, orthopaedic sports medicine doctors, rheumatologists and physical medicine doctors. This collaboration positions us to provide you with a robust set of solutions to address your needs every step of the way.
Our hand therapists offer treatment at several key points of your rehabilitation, providing conservative and nonoperative guidance, postoperative support, preventive strategies and consultations with a clinician when appropriate. By providing you with one-on-one, in-clinic guidance and exercises as well as accommodations you can apply at home, our goal is to return you to the activities of your daily life in a productive and pain-free manner. We also utilize the Baltimore Therapeutic Equipment (BTE) work simulator to evaluate when you can safely perform the essential job functions required to return to work.
