Mary Wagner earned her master’s of science in occupational therapy from Eastern Kentucky University in 2018, along with her National Board Certification in Occupational Therapy. Mary obtained board certification in Hand Therapy from the Hand Therapy Certification Commission in 2021. Before joining the hand therapy team at UK HealthCare, she predominately worked in private practice, focusing on hand therapy. She also has experience serving as an occupational therapist in inpatient rehabilitation, working with orthopaedic, neurological and complex medical patients.

She completed her term as secretary for the Kentucky Occupational Therapy Association in 2022. In 2023, she earned her certification in wound care from the National Alliance on Wound Care and Ostomy as wound care is a critical component of treating post-operative and traumatic upper extremity conditions and is an area of clinical interest for her.

Personal Statement

I chose OT because we help patients write a different ending to often scary, unexpected or traumatic beginnings. We meet patients during some of the worst times of their lives, and we write endings that get people back to living their lives through occupations (life activities), exercises, splinting, adaptations and more.
