About

David B. Drake, MD, a native of Kentucky, earned his medical degree from UK before completing residencies in general surgery at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn., and in plastic surgery at the University of Virginia. He went on to complete a burn fellowship, a hand surgery fellowship and a microvascular surgery fellowship at the University of Virginia. He returned to Kentucky in 2018 to join the Division of Plastic Surgery to practice a broad range of Plastic Surgery including surgery of the hand and wrist.

Personal Statment

Plastic Surgery is an incredible field in which to practice in that we treat all ages and all socioeconomic groups. Our field contains the skin and its contents from aesthetic surgery to the most complex reconstructive surgery following trauma or cancer. This process also enables us to develop personal relationships with our patients and take them from a place of injury or deformity to restoration of form and function.

The appreciation and gratitude of my patients drives me to continue this journey. I also have the privilege of teaching residents and medical students and exposing them to the power of transformation that we sometimes can effect on our patients. Outside of the hospital I am engaged in sport activities (golf) and a full life of travel and adventure with my wife and our families.

The doctor asked me a couple questions before telling me he didn't know how to help me and telling me I'd be contacted about a referral to a different type of doctor.

This was the worst experience I ever been through. I knew something was wrong when they didn't look at MRI one didn't know the name of the dr. that sent me to *Dr. Drake. I need to find out what is causing this pain and why my finger turns black.

All were great. Everyone listened and answered my questions completely. I simply cannot afford to make my co-pays.

They didn't ask anything about how it was doing, only took out stitches.

The care provider - assistant was new and did not know the case. This was the one time the dr. came and asked occupational therapist to help me. Her care/concern was excellent.

I wish if the Doctor assistant was confused as I heard her say to the Doctor she would have made me part of the talk with the Doctor and the Doctor talk to me instead of the assitant full time.

Gave a quick dx and treatment options. However not all the implications of treatment option I selected was verbalized. Lingering pain after injection (lasted 8 hours). Soreness after the pain subsided (another 8 hours). Having never had this procedure, I did not know what to expect.
