About
David B. Drake, MD, a native of Kentucky, earned his medical degree from UK before completing residencies in general surgery at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn., and in plastic surgery at the University of Virginia.
He went on to complete a burn fellowship, a hand surgery fellowship and a microvascular surgery fellowship at the University of Virginia. He returned to Kentucky in 2018 to join the Division of Plastic Surgery to practice a broad range of Plastic Surgery including surgery of the hand and wrist.
Personal Statement
Plastic Surgery is an incredible field in which to practice in that we treat all ages and all socioeconomic groups. Our field contains the skin and its contents from aesthetic surgery to the most complex reconstructive surgery following trauma or cancer. This process also enables us to develop personal relationships with our patients and take them from a place of injury or deformity to restoration of form and function.
The appreciation and gratitude of my patients drives me to continue this journey. I also have the privilege of teaching residents and medical students and exposing them to the power of transformation that we sometimes can effect on our patients. Outside of the hospital I am engaged in sport activities (golf) and a full life of travel and adventure with my wife and our families.
