How to register as an organ donor in MyChart

UK HealthCare patients who are interested can now register as organ, eye and tissue donors directly through MyChart, the secure patient portal used to manage appointments, prescriptions and test results. This new feature simplifies the registration process and supports a life-saving cause.

Melinda Fox, transplant director at UK HealthCare, played a key role in making this update possible. Fox is also a member of the Donate Life America Advisory Council, which helps support the organization’s mission to increase organ, eye and tissue donation.

“This is an important step in increasing the number on the registry, which ultimately increases transplants and saves lives,” Fox said.

More than 2 million Kentuckians are registered organ donors, but every day there are hundreds still waiting for a life-saving transplant.

“I hope this new partnership increases registry numbers and helps decrease the number of patients waiting on a second chance at life,” Fox said.

When you register to become a donor through MyChart, you are added to the National Donate Life Registry. Your registration will travel with you even if you move to another state, just like your electronic health records in Epic, the system that powers MyChart.

You can choose to donate for transplant, research or education purposes. Your donor status is not visible to any members of your care team.

UK HealthCare is proud to support this effort and looks forward to helping save lives through expanded access to donor registration.
