2025 Male Comeback Athlete of the Year: Britt Redman

UK HealthCare Sports Medicine is proud to present the 2025 Male Comeback Athlete of the Year Award. This year's recipient is Britt Redman, a senior from Christian Academy of Louisville (CAL).
Two Comeback Athlete of the Year Awards — given to one male student-athlete and one female student-athlete — are presented annually to young people who have overcome illness or injury that affected their ability to participate in sports sanctioned by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.
Athletic trainers from across Kentucky review nominees submitted to the KHSAA, and recipients are determined based on their sportsmanship, ethical behavior on and off the field, and academic standing.
Congratulations to Britt on being this year's male recipient!
About Britt
Three weeks into the 2023 KHSAA football playoffs, Britt was diagnosed with testicular cancer, ending his junior campaign at CAL. Britt watched from the press box at Kroger Field as his teammates won the Class 3A state title, his own body battling pain from tumors that had spread to his abdomen and neck.
Britt was unable to attend classes in-person or participate in football activities during the spring semester to his weakened immune system, but he was determined to be back on campus and playing football by his senior year. Through multiple surgeries and chemotherapy, Britt was able to achieve that goal: he was declared cancer-free in late spring.
He worked tireless to recover body mass needed to compete on the football field; Britt lost almost 80 pounds throughout his cancer treatment. On Sept. 6, 2024, Britt took the field for the first time since his diagnosis, helping his team to a 49-0 win over North Hardin.
“This was truly a miracle!” said Hunter Cantwell, head coach of the Centurions.
It got even better: Britt during his senior season recorded nine receptions for 99 yards and two touchdowns, including a catch in the Class 3A semifinals. A week later he was on the field playing, not in the press box, as CAL celebrated another victory in the UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals.
