Past Health Disparities Community Events
At UK HealthCare, we believe in fostering a culture that celebrates the unique individuals and perspectives that contribute to a thriving community. The Office of Health Disparities organizes a variety of community events to bring people together, share experiences and build meaningful connections.
Since 2023, we have partnered with local faith leaders to launch the Holistic Health Awareness Campaign. This initiative has brought several impactful events to Lexington, providing hundreds of community members with essential health education, including screenings, mental health resources, nutrition tips and more.

2023 Holistic Health Awareness Campaign
The Office of Health Disparities along with several community partners, including local faith leaders, sponsored this campaign throughout March 2023 during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.
Colorectal cancer, which includes colon and rectal cancer, affects the large intestine and is increasingly common and often deadly. In 2021, it was the second leading cause of cancer deaths in Kentucky. However, colon and rectal cancers are among the few cancers that are preventable.
The Office of Health Disparities partnered with more than 40 UK HealthCare team members and several community organizations for this campaign, which focused on colorectal cancer awareness and included screenings and prevention efforts for other types of cancer. The initiative reached more than 500 people across the community.
