UK HealthCare’s Gill Heart & Vascular Institute has earned national recognition from the American Heart Association (AHA) for its commitment to delivering lifesaving, research-based care for heart attack patients in Kentucky.

The institute received AHA’s Get With The Guidelines – Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Receiving Center Silver recognition, underscoring UK HealthCare’s role as a leader in advanced, rapid-response treatment for patients experiencing ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI),  one of the most severe types of heart attacks.

“Every second matters when treating a heart attack, and our team is dedicated to providing the highest level of care for Kentuckians,” said Dr. Naoki Misumida, director of the Catheterization Lab at UK HealthCare. “This recognition from the American Heart Association affirms the expertise of our providers and the strength of our coordinated system of care across the region.”

As a leading academic health system, UK HealthCare plays a unique role in ensuring patients have access to specialized cardiac care. Recognition as a STEMI Receiving Center highlights Gill Heart & Vascular Institute’s ability to provide 24/7 advanced treatment, working in close collaboration with community hospitals and emergency medical services to deliver the best possible outcomes for patients.

The American Heart Association developed its Get With The Guidelines® program to help hospitals consistently apply the latest evidence-based treatment protocols for heart disease. Hospitals receiving the STEMI Receiving Center award must demonstrate a strong commitment to following these guidelines both in the hospital and after discharge.

“Gill Heart & Vascular Institute is dedicated to improving the quality of heart care for all Kentuckians,” Misumida said. “We’re proud to put research into practice every day, ensuring our patients receive the most advanced and effective treatments available.”
