UK HealthCare recognized by Vizient for excellent patient care
UK HealthCare has received a 2018 Vizient Rising Star Award for recognition as a top performer in making significant improvements in their year-over-year rankings in the annual Vizient Quality and Accountability Study. The annual study identifies exemplary performance in safety, mortality, clinical effectiveness, efficiency, patient-centeredness and equity of care. The award was presented on Thursday, Oct. 4 during the 2018 Vizient Connections Summit held in Las Vegas.
“As a Rising Star, our team at UK HealthCare has demonstrated an ability to execute best practices over the past year, and our performance has enabled us to surpass many of our peers to gain a place in the top quartile of performance for 2018,” said Dr. Mark F. Newman, UK executive vice president for health affairs. “I often emphasize quality and value in patient-care delivery. These rankings – this Rising Star Award as well as the U.S. News & World Report honors – are a testament to the fact that we are continually moving in the right direction.”
Performance measures
The Vizient Quality and Accountability Study measures performance based on the Institute of Medicine’s six domains of care: safety, timeliness, effectiveness, efficiency, equity and patient-centeredness. The composite scoring system uses patient-level performance data from a variety of sources, including the Vizient Clinical Data Base, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Core Measures, the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Healthcare Safety Network.
“Vizient is proud to recognize UK HealthCare for their tremendous improvement over the course of the last year that has enabled them to move up at least 20 spots in the rankings and place in the highest quartile of performance for 2018,” said Julie Cerese, group senior vice president of performance management and national networks for Vizient. “The Vizient Quality and Accountability Study was designed to support organizations in adopting evidence-based characteristics of top performance. As a Rising Star, UK HealthCare serves as an outstanding example of executing these best practices to achieve this top-quartile performance in quality, efficiency and effectiveness.”
