About

Dr. William Weir is a thoracic surgeon at UK HealthCare who specializes in advanced lung disease, lung transplantation and critical care. He has expertise in advanced life support techniques, including ECMO, and is actively involved in improving quality of life and outcomes for patients with complex lung conditions.

Dr. Weir completed his medical training and surgical residencies at the University of Michigan, where he also received advanced fellowship training in lung support technologies, robotic thoracic surgery and the care of critically ill patients.

Before joining UK HealthCare, Dr. Weir gained extensive experience caring for some of the sickest patients in the hospital, including those with severe respiratory failure and those in need of lung transplantation. 

Dr. Weir joined UK HealthCare to help meet Kentucky’s growing need for experienced lung transplant and thoracic surgery specialists. He is passionate about restoring health and quality of life for patients with serious lung disease and is dedicated to training the next generation of surgeons.

Dr. Weir is a surgeon who listens, takes time to explain complex conditions in clear terms, and works closely with patients to develop a treatment plan they understand and trust. His goal is for every patient to leave feeling informed, supported and confident in their care – treated the way he would want a member of his own family to be treated.
