Dr Gottschalk saved my life three years ago when she gently but firmly recommended a neglected mammogram and staff set it up.

I've been a patient of Dr Gottschalk's since before she joined the staff at UK Family Medicine. I think so highly of her as a physician and a person that I drive from Danville, KY in order to see Dr Gottschalk.

Asked for a referral to the Weight Loss/Management clinic but was given a referral instead to someone in Women's Health who was on leave for a year (which is obviously not helpful).

She told me that if I couldnt get in to see my eye doctor to go to the ER. Not everyone can afford the ER. This was a very classist comment, and gave the impression that I was being brushed off.

I'm 79 with multiple problems. I have seen medicine, cardiology, neurology and hematology. Only hematology has handled my case to my satisfaction. I'm changing to a different primary care doctor next visit.

This was one of the first doctor appointments that I felt listened to, heard, I felt comfortable after we got started. When I said my nerves make my BP higher and if they retake it that it will go down they listened and did that. They didn't make any unnecessary weight comments and were polite and respectful. They were positive and praised the things I was working on.

I visited Dr. Gottschalk with heightened anxiety and Insomnia over a recent medical diagnosis and upcoming surgery. My PCP was out of town. I was asked what has and has not worked for me in the past, but my input was ignored. I explained that my heightened anxiety would likely dissipate once surgery was over in a couple of months, and as such, I was not interested in starting a medication that I needed to take every day or maintain after that time. She offered an SSRI. Even though I had already said they didn't work for me, I left with a script for a sleep medication prescribed for daily use and an antihistamine for daytime anxiety that I had tried unsuccessfully for sleep in the past and that makes me feel too groggy to use during the day. I am already prescribed antihistamines for allergies/congestion, as well. My after visit notes are erroneous in that they say I had used ambien in the past for anxiety (I had used that medication successfully for sleep at one point) and that Wellbutrin had not worked for me (it worked beautifully, but that was a long time ago and was used for a longer term period of stress). I came in for help the day after my first meeting with my surgeon, but the entire visit left me feeling far worse than when I arrived. I did not feel Dr. Gottschalk heard me or made any effort to understand what I needed. I've worked hard to manage anxiety without medication for several years. I asked for help for two months during a very stressful time and was told I could not have medication that has worked for me in the past, and instead, was sent home to "try" medications that aren't helpful and only make me feel worse. Terrible experience.
