Sympathetic chain blocks

This treatment is an option for patients who are diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome or specific types of cancer-related pain. This procedure targets the sympathetic nervous system, which is a system of nerves that controls many bodily functions and contributes to pain for some patients. By placing local anesthetic (numbing medication) and steroid medication near these nerves through a needle, many patients receive significant pain relief.

Specific sympathetic chain blocks commonly performed:

  • Celiac plexus block
  • Ganglion impar block
  • Lumbar sympathetic block
  • Sphenopalatine ganglion block
  • Stellate ganglion block
  • Superior hypogastric block
