Throwback Thursday: Dr. Mark Evers
For this week’s Throwback Thursday, we caught up with Dr. Mark Evers, director of the UK Markey Cancer Center, Kentucky’s only NCI-designated center. Dr. Evers, who attended medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, shared some pictures of his time in school and reflected back on his career as a highly successful surgical oncologist.
Did you always want to be a doctor?
Yes, and specifically a surgeon, which, to me, was synonymous with being a doctor. This was really shaped by a great role model and general surgeon in my small Tennessee community.
What advice would you give someone who wanted to do what you do?
Medicine is and will continue to change rapidly with new discoveries and techniques that will significantly alter our practice in the future. You must be malleable and willing to change, adapt and evolve or risk going the way of the dinosaur.
