Campus Community Message on Novel Coronavirus

Campus Community,

The University of Kentucky is a diverse and globally engaged research university with a world-class academic medical center, and we want to provide information to our campus community about the coronavirus that has been identified in parts of China and has been a point of concern.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • A novel coronavirus (2019-n-CoV) has been identified in Wuhan, China, with cases reported of patients with fever and acute respiratory illness. No cases of this novel coronavirus have been identified at the University of Kentucky or in the state at this time. However, the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff is our most important priority.
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Kentucky Department for Public Health have provided a health advisory and recommendations for education, as well as a risk assessment for anyone who has recently traveled to Wuhan, China.
  • Any UK student, faculty, or staff member who has traveled to Wuhan, China within the past two weeks and develops symptoms of lower respiratory illness — which include cough, shortness of breath, and fever — should call University Health Service at 859-323-5823 (APPT), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. It is important that you inform the scheduler that you were in Wuhan and describe your symptoms.
  • After hours, you may contact the on-call physician at 859-323-5321, or you may go to the Emergency Department. If you go to the Emergency Department, or any health care facility, please be sure to inform them of your travel history and symptoms.

Thank you for your attention to this issue and for your continued concern for the health, wellness, and well-being of all members of our campus community.
