Dr. Waleed Mourad is a board-certified radiation oncologist who cares for patients with pediatric and gastrointestinal cancers. Mourad has been instrumental in developing interdisciplinary cancer treatment strategies that focus on preservation of organ structure and function and quality-of-life outcomes. He has extensive experience practicing and providing leadership in the academic medical center environment, most recently at Erlanger Health Systems in Chattanooga, Tenn., where he served as medical director of the department of radiation oncology.
Mourad is part of the multidisciplinary team at the UK Markey Cancer Center and an expert in using many state-of-the-art radiation therapy technologies. These include adaptive radiation therapy (ART), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), e.g., LINAC-based, Gamma Knife and CyberKnife. He also has used brachytherapy and intraoperative radiation therapy to deal with complex clinical situations, such as re-treatment and second malignancies.
His clinical research has been presented nationally and internationally, appearing in more than 170 presentations, publications and textbook chapters.
“I believe strongly in ‘personalized precision medicine’ and in the importance of an interdisciplinary approach. I work closely with all cancer team members and my patients to cure cancer, so that the patients we serve enjoy the best quality of life.”
