I had much to discuss in this appointment with Dr. Vick, as I will be having a major surgery in 3 weeks and I had many concerns about how to plan for a successful recovery when a chronic illness I live with makes much of the standard advice for preparing for surgery inappropriate for my body. Dr. Vick heard all of my concerns, offered his own thoughts on how certain aspects should be approached, acknowledged his limited role in making certain decisions in the setting of this surgery, and explained how he would advocate for me by talking with the relevant providers about specific unique concerns due to my body's issues with chronic illness and chronic pain to help initiate a plan for how things like pain will be handled immediately after surgery inappropriate order to help me be heard and to do what is possible to set me up for a successful recovery. As always, Dr. Vick's care is a unique and special combination of empathetic and practical. I always feel seen, heard and believed under Dr. Vick's care, and this directly translates into clear next steps that will be taken, with me understanding what is my responsibility vs what he will manage and the expected timeline for further communication. If I describe him with a platitude, such as Dr. Vick is the best doctor I've ever known, things like this balance of pragmatic dignity that he consistently demonstrates are examples of what I'm referring to.

Dr. Vick is very sympathetic and kind. Despite the fact I was the last patient on Friday afternoon of the Memorial Day weekend, he took the time to be sure I was comfortable with the outcome, knew where to pick up the prescription and promised a follow up. He messaged me through myChart Sunday afternoon with the results of the tests and to check on me, as promised. He really goes above and beyond. I appreciate his kindness and his expertise.
