About
Dr. Helen Wei is a board-certified acute care surgeon at UK HealthCare who specializes in trauma, emergency surgery and critical care. She cares for patients who have experienced traumatic injuries or abdominal emergencies requiring surgical care, as well as patients who require treatment in the intensive care unit. She also performs elective surgeries, including hernia repair, gallbladder removal, appendix removal and removal of benign skin lesions.
After earning her medical degree from the University of Rochester, Dr. Wei completed a residency in general surgery at Rutgers University and fellowships in surgical critical care and acute care surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Wei’s research interests include traumatic brain injury management, gut and respiratory dysfunction after spinal cord injury, and improving treatments for sepsis.
Personal Statement
I believe that patients deserve safe and effective care that is supported by the best available evidence. I chose to pursue acute care surgery because I aspire to support people and families during healthcare emergencies and defining moments in their lives. It is a privilege to be able to treat patients at UK HealthCare.
