Melissa C. Collett, MSN, APRN, FNP-C

Melissa “Candis” Collett is a certified family nurse practitioner at UK HealthCare with over two decades of experience.

Collett provides compassionate, comprehensive care to patients of all ages — from pediatrics to geriatrics. She specializes in the management of a wide range of chronic illnesses, including diabetes, chronic lung disease, hypertension, thyroid disorders, autoimmune conditions and mental health concerns. 

Collett offers both in-person and telehealth visits. She provides preventive care, chronic disease management, wellness support and specialist referrals when needed.

Her approach to care is holistic and patient-centered, emphasizing self-care, personal responsibility, reflection and spirituality as key components of the healing process. She believes that every patient deserves personalized, thoughtful care that nurtures both physical health and emotional well-being.

Born in Yreka, Calif. and raised in Hyden, Ky., Collett earned her associate’s degree in nursing from the University of Kentucky’s nursing program through Hazard Community and Technical College. She then earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Eastern Kentucky University. She holds board certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
 

Personal Statement

I chose to become a family nurse practitioner because I’ve always been drawn to the deep connections that can be built in primary care — caring for patients across the lifespan, from childhood through elder years. I’ve seen how much of a difference it makes when patients feel truly seen, heard and supported. That’s what inspired me to pursue this path and continue evolving within it.

My philosophy is grounded in holistic care: treating the whole person — not just the illness. I believe in empowering patients through education, self-care, reflection and compassion as well as honoring the spiritual and emotional aspects of health alongside the physical. My goal is always to create a space where patients feel safe, respected and actively involved in their health journey.
