Gill providers selected to ACC Diversity and Inclusion Committee

Brittany Smith, PharmD; Paul Anaya, MD, PhD

We’re proud to share that two Gill Heart & Vascular Institute providers were recently chosen to serve as members of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the American College of Cardiology – the national organization dedicated to transforming cardiovascular care and improving heart health.

Brittany Smith, PharmD, pharmacist at the Anticoagulation Clinic; and Paul Anaya, MD, PhD, medical director of the Nuclear Lab and director of Cardiac Intensive Care, were recently named to the committee, so we chatted with them about what the selection means as well as what they hope to accomplish during their respective terms:

“I am honored to have been selected to serve as a member on the American College of Cardiology’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. I hope this committee will continue to place emphasis on educating the cardiology and medical communities of the value of diverse workplaces, diverse perspectives, and diverse patient populations.

My hope is that through this committee’s actions, the cardiology community will continue to adapt our initiatives and practices to best serve our diverse patient populations and to continue to pursue a diverse profession as they both continue adapt and change over time.” – Brittany Smith, PharmD

“I consider it a great honor to have been selected to serve on the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the national ACC.

My hope is that this committee will continue to bring attention to the contributions that a diverse medical community bestows on the care of an increasingly diverse patient population and that we forget a sustainable plan to continue to foster diversity and inclusion within the cardiovascular profession.” – Dr. Paul Anaya
