Sandra J. Beck, MD, FACS, FASCRS

Sandra Beck attended medical school at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and completed a general surgery residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. She then completed training in colon and rectal surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.

Beck's clinical interests include the surgical treatment of Colon and Rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis) and complex anal-rectal disorders. She specializes in minimally invasive approaches to colorectal disorders including laparoscopy, robotic surgery and transanal endoscopic microsurgery.

Personal Statement

My patients and I are equal members of the surgical team. As their physician, it is important to me that my patients understand their disease, the rationale and details of their surgical procedure, and the critical role they play in achieving the best possible outcome.

The patient, my staff, and I are a team. We communicate and collaborate with each other throughout the entire operative process. Afterward, we coordinate follow-up visits and, if necessary, delve into post-surgical recovery and support services. When all that planning and work comes together and results in an improved quality of life for patients and their families, that is when I experience the most satisfaction as a physician.

The majority of surgical procedures performed at UK are minimally invasive which involve small incisions. This results in less scar tissue, and lower risks of infections and complications. It is a privilege to work at UK, where we stand at the forefront of new advances in medicine and surgery for the benefit of our patients and the education of our residents.
