Albert B. Chandler Hospital Appreciation Day will be celebrated Sunday, April 24, 2022, in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The day, designated by the Kentucky Senate and House of Representatives, honors the 60th anniversary of Albert B Chandler Hospital and commemorates the contributions of UK Chandler Hospital and UK HealthCare.

Dr. Mark F. Newman, executive vice president for health affairs at UK HealthCare, recently reflected on the hospital’s and UK HealthCare’s rich history of expanding access to quality health care for all Kentuckians. “The establishment of Chandler Hospital was a monumental undertaking championed by a community of support,” Dr. Newman said of the efforts leading to the official opening.

On April 24, 1962, Chandler Hospital opened its doors and welcomed its first patients. Today, the hospital has evolved into the UK HealthCare system, operating three hospitals – UK Chandler, UK Good Samaritan, UK Kentucky Children’s Hospital – and our ambulatory and outpatient clinics; all of which combine to serve more than 40,000 patients annually.

Dr. Newman will spearhead efforts in the coming months celebrating the 60th anniversary and honoring those who have played a part in realizing an incredible vision.

We invite the UK campus, our community and the Commonwealth to share in this celebration. View Dr. Newman’s message below to learn more about our journey.
