About

Dr. Kevin Hatton is a board-certified anesthesiologist and critical care specialist. He serves as the Chief Medical Officer for Albert B. Chandler Hospital, where he oversees the operational mission of the 945-bed flagship hospital of UK HealthCare.

In this role, Dr. Hatton is committed to unifying the impact that providers, staff and families all have to achieve the best outcome for every patient.

His clinical interests focus primarily on critical care medicine, including optimized strategies for mechanical cardiopulmonary support (ECMO), development of simplified protocols for resuscitation and de-resuscitation in acute inflammatory states, neurocritical care, and the impact of early-care modalities in intracerebral hemorrhage and subarachnoid hemorrhage.

After his undergraduate training at Transylvania University, Dr. Hatton earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky in 2002. He remained at UK to complete his residency in anesthesiology before going to the University of Florida for a fellowship in critical care. Following his graduate training, Dr. Hatton returned to Lexington, primarily working as an intensivist in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and Neuroscience Critical Care Unit (NSICU) at UK HealthCare.

Less than 5 years after joining the anesthesiology faculty, Dr. Hatton became the Division Chief of Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine. During his tenure, the division grew the size of its faculty, launched and grew its advanced practice provider group, tripled its average daily census, and successfully weathered the COVID-19 pandemic. He also served as the Anesthesiology Critical Care Fellowship Program Director and trained 15 fellows.

Dr. Hatton has authored over 50 published articles and book chapters. As a clinical researcher, he focuses on better understanding and mitigating inflammatory injury after subarachnoid hemorrhage. In the midst of his other work, he completed his PhD in Clinical and Translational Science at UK in 2020.
