Dr. Lucy Eakle Franklin was born and raised in Lexington. Dr. Franklin received her bachelor's degree in history from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, followed by her medical degree from the University of Louisville. She trained in ophthalmology at UK and then spent four years working as a comprehensive ophthalmologist in Louisville.

Dr. Franklin is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She has been inducted into both the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies.

Her husband, Dr. John Franklin, also works at UK HealthCare and specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. They have two young daughters.

    Dr Franklin explains everything quite well. She shows attention to detail. She is very caring. I am very grateful to have her as my ophthalmologist. I don't mind waiting because I know I will have a thorough exam.

      Dr Franklin summarized simply what I had told nurse and other doctor who examined me first. She listened to everything I said and made me feel comfortable with what she thought was wrong. I had seen another Dr elsewhere and he did not listen and told me what I had to do right then with hardly any explanation. Dr. Franklin relieved my fear of problem and treatment. She referred me to a specialist before I made final decision. I felt comfortable with her suggestions of a second opinion.

      Dr. Lucy F is Rupert's new favorite person. She's kind, attentive and humble and recognizes that my dealing with my unusual situation has to be a collaboration effort. I am one of the very few RB survivors of my age group with a working eye and am an expert not only in my own care but for other RB patients. She's a perfect match for brainstorming how to keep Rupert healthy. (Yes, my eye has a name. She has cartoons, too. ) It's clear to me Dr.F has this approach with all her patients and provides exemplary care to all of us. I have rec'd her to clients seeking eye care.
