Dr. Makayla Wiles Nelson received her PharmD from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in 2019. Through pharmacy school she was a formal intern for UK HealthCare outpatient pharmacies. After graduation, she pursued two years of residency through the Lexington VA Health Care System with her second year of residency focused on ambulatory management of chronic disease states. After completion of residency in the summer of 2021, she accepted a specialty pharmacy position at Baptist Health Medical Group Endocrinology aiding in access and education for specialty and specialty-lite medications. Makayla has been working as a clinical ambulatory care pharmacist at UK Nephrology, Bone & Mineral Metabolism since April 2022 providing medication management services for chronic kidney disease-related disease states and complications such as hypertension, anemia, electrolyte disturbances, etc. She is a Kentucky native, originally from a small town in western Kentucky, but has called Lexington home for the last 10 years. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, traveling, trying new foods/restaurants, and spending time with family and friends.
