About

Kim C. Deaton earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy from Eastern Kentucky University and became board-certified in 1993. Her early career was in a variety of settings treating various diagnoses including stroke, spinal cord injuries, multiple trauma, and general orthopedic issues. She started an Occupational Therapy program at Clark County Hospital in Winchester where she was initially exposed to hand patients and found her passion. While living in Bristol, TN Kim pursued advanced training in hand therapy and obtained her certification from the Hand Therapy Commission in 2002 as a Certified Hand Therapist.

In 2005, Kim and her family moved back to central Kentucky where she has worked in outpatient settings providing therapy to hand-injured Central and Eastern Kentucky patients. She has enjoyed investing in her profession by mentoring several students and young therapist.

Kim joined the UK Hand therapy team at Turfland in July 2023.

Personal Statement

I chose Occupational Therapy because I wanted to help people recover from events that affected their functional abilities. Hand Therapy can be like a complex puzzle to me and I enjoy figuring out the pieces to promote a successful outcome and return to function. OT provides me with the ability to meet, work with, and get to know people from all walks of life. I am happy to have joined the UK Hand Team.

When not at work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. We enjoy traveling, eating a good meal and watching sports.
