Patient Care

Our specialists and fellowship-trained surgeons are world renowned for developing and implementing state-of-the-art techniques to diagnose, treat, research and educate patients about bone and joint disorders. The department employs some of the only fellowship-trained surgeons in the region and features the latest technology and medical advancements. It is our goal to provide the highest level of care available so that we may return our patients to their daily activities as quickly as possible.

Services

Joint Replacement and Reconstruction

We offer a variety of comprehensive services to treat all musculoskeletal disorders and injuries. The Center for Cartilage Repair & Restoration, the first of its kind in Kentucky, offers advanced treatment options including operative and non-operative procedures. To complement the Center for Cartilage Repair & Restoration, we offer an advanced joint replacement and reconstruction program.

UK Sports Medicine Center

Provides evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery for sports-related injuries. A multidisciplinary team of specialists treats professional, collegiate and recreational athletes. Services are provided to sports teams from the University of Kentucky, Kentucky State University, Morehead State University, the Eastern Kentucky University football team, Fayette County public high schools, as well as the Kentucky Horsemen arena football team and numerous outlying county high school athletic teams.

Comprehensive Spine Program

The complexities of spinal surgery demand advanced technology and a medical team with diverse expertise such as that found at UK HealthCare. By bringing together orthopaedic experts and neurosurgeons from the Kentucky Neuroscience Institute, we offer our patients an advanced, multidisciplinary approach to spine care. From tumors to injuries to ailments such as scoliosis, our experienced physicians work hard to ensure that all patients receive high-quality, personalized care. Some of the advanced, minimally invasive procedures we offer include kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty.

Hand & Foot Care

Provides highly specialized care ranging from carpal tunnel decompressions to very complex cases such as brachial plexus reconstructions. Our foot and ankle specialists treat a wide variety of foot- and ankle-related problems ranging from bunions and hammertoes to problems needing advanced reconstructive surgeries. The UK Trauma Program is an American College of Surgeons-accredited Level I Trauma Center. This allows us to treat the most complex hand and foot care cases.

Pediatric Orthopaedics

In cooperation with Kentucky Children's Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children, we are pleased to provide the region with four fellowship-trained pediatric orthopaedists. No other hospital in Kentucky can boast as many trained orthopaedists dedicated to the care of children.

Trauma

To support UK Chandler Hospital's Level I trauma center, we have fellowship-trained orthopaedic trauma surgeons. UK Chandler Hospital is one of only two Level I centers serving the needs of Kentuckians. It is the only center providing tertiary care for central and southeastern Kentucky.
