QUALIFY?

Here are the criteria for weight-loss surgery:

  • You are more than 100 pounds overweight or have a BMI of 35 or more.  A BMI of 35 or higher is typically needed to qualify for weight-loss surgery and requirements vary based on additional criteria.
  • Obesity-related conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease and sleep apnea, may be required depending on your BMI. These conditions are more difficult to treat when you are overweight.
  • You are willing to adjust your lifestyle. You must be willing to stop using tobacco and adhere to nutritional guidelines. Our dietitians will develop an individualized plan just for you to help ensure your success. 
  • You must commit to long-term, follow-up care with our office. We become partners with you for your lifetime. 
  • You must be able to walk at least 50 feet or the length of a hallway.
